![]() This week, the view from my window has been unhindered by glass. The warm air filled my apartment in swells while my cat clawed at the screen, eager to get access to the squirrels and birds she's been chirping at. It's really happening folks. Spring. Le Printemps. Buds are about to burst open on the gnarled branches, and I've got to admit, this weather is making it difficult to focus on just about anything I need to get taken care of... ![]() I'm sure you're wondering what I've been up to between my last post and this one. After all, it has been a couple of weeks since I've written anything. I'll be frank with you. I've been very busy making silly, impulsive decisions and ultimately having the time of my life. Yes, Okay. I may have spent more money than I'd have preferred. I could have possibly partook of several beverages...and yeah it's likely that my apartment has been in shambles, but sometimes life takes priority. Last week, My priority was reading my new book: A Discovery of Witches. I've seriously enjoyed this book in a way that consumes my life, so if you have free time on your hands and are interested in a good read, I'd recommend it. I mean, yes there are vampires and stuff, but I'm sort of into that kind of supernatural thing, If you are too, I might loan you my copy. ![]() Oh, In case you're wondering. I happened to do something that cause me to actually be embarrassed. This is not something that happens everyday. It takes something BIG to make this girl blush. I'm not embarrassed by most anything, and I don't believe in awkwardness so It takes a titanic mistake to get at my confidence like that. It takes a handshake. I decided to finally visit Milktooth and pretend to be a real hipster (Not just a girl with short pink hair). For those of you who don't know, Milktooth is touted as one of the best places to get brunch in the city, and state, and it may be better than most in the country. Located in the historic Fletcher Place neighborhood, you walk into an old garage (from appearances) and hipster-dom gets absorbed into your blood stream by osmosis. This causes you to not only enjoy a decent meal, but also feel pretty dang good about yourself. 2:30pm: I sat alone taking in the beautiful afternoon light and chatted briefly with my server about the menu when the unspeakable happened. He ran me through the menu, I selected a savory dutch baby pancake and...his hand was open and very close to my face. It was right there, beckoning me. After placing my order and eyeing his hand in my peripheral, without even thinking mind you, I reached over and shook. his. hand. Oh the horror. It wasn't even a girly handshake. It was a business handshake. He looked at me like I'd scratched his entire vinyl collection by running them over with his own single speed bike, and then lighted them on fire while I cackled under the moonlight. Why why why did I do that!? Who shakes hands with their server? NOBODY DOES THIS ANGELA! Don't worry. I tried to save myself. I quickly stumbled over what to say and came up with this gem of an excuse, "Hah Hah, you know, when I see a hand, I GOTTA SHAKE IT!" He raised his eyebrows, gave a pity laugh and left. He didn't come back very often. They weren't even busy. This is how my soul died. Then it died again, when I forgot my wallet, and had to ask the new girl in the office to spot me. I just sat nonchalantly at the table, trying to eat my pancake as slowly as possible until she got there to help me. Ignoring the fact that they were obviously trying to close. I may have to change my entire appearance before I return. However, I did make some strides with my artwork. So, I guess I'm feeling pretty good about getting things done, despite the hours I lost spent over the book (which, of course, is a trilogy so I'm in for more reading in the future).
Life has been good but now is time for me to improve that life a bit. I decided that I've been spending too much money and too many calories on alcohol, so I am giving it up until my trip to England. Which I don't think should be too hard as it is only one month away. I'm also, going to try to, gulp, exercise again. why does this feel so unpleasant to announce? It's a late start for my summer body (whatever that means), but I think I can make a positive change, and it will be nice to be stronger. That's about all for now. Yours, Angela DeCamp
